The simplest health check there is: keep your waist to less than half your height. Measure your waist and see where you stand.
How this works
Waist-to-height ratio = waist circumference ÷ height, in the same units.
UK NICE guidance (2022) uses 0.4 to 0.49 as healthy, 0.5 to 0.59 as increased health risk and 0.6 or more as high health risk. The simple rule: keep your waist to less than half your height. It applies to adults of all ethnicities.
Results are estimates for general information only and are not medical advice. Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before making major changes to your diet or exercise, especially if you are pregnant or have a health condition.
